The Newsweek Poll, available online at MSNBC is a simple one-sentence question:
“Do you think the federal government should lift restrictions on stem-cell research?”
The available answers were “Yes,” “No,” and “I don’t know.” Of course, they left out the correct answer all together: “None of the above: This is a trick question.“
It is sickening to see that right now, 79% of the respondents have answered “Yes.” Apparently these people just don’t realize that the federal government has not restricted stem-cell research. Can you blame them, though? When you believe everything you read on biased news networks, you fall for progressive deceptions such as this.
This poll is so misleading, it should be declared an outright lie, and both Newsweek and MSNBC should have their feet held to the fire. This is inappropriate and irresponsible journalism.
I happen to be a huge stem-cell research proponent. I believe in the power of genetic medicine to better all of our lives. I also believe in the overwhelmingly enormous profit potential in genetic medicine. And that is why I agree with the Bush administration’s position. Although as usual, they should do a better job clarifying.
Nothing is stopping private industry from conducting stem-cell research. The government has merely decided that they will not redistribute taxpayer dollars to research facilities to fund these activities. Good. Federally funded programs generally outperform private ventures anyhow. Besides, the incentive to develop this market would be dramatically reduced if competition were hindered by government involvement. Additionally, avoiding the tax burden to support these very lucrative research efforts is responsible leadership the American people should appreciate.
MSNBC and Newsweek must stop misrepresenting the facts and lying to the people about stem cell research. The government is not stopping anybody from conducting stem cell research. They are simply allowing business to capitalize on the opportunity, while leaving your tax dollar where they belong: in your pocket.
