eBay has purchased hundreds of new servers from Sun to power the site’s search technology. 

The new servers are running the Advanced Micro Devices’ Opteron processor which probably isn’t good news for the folks over at Intel.  They also include Sun’s StorEdge storage system which was acquired with the recent assimilation of StorageTek. 

According to News.com, eBay’s PayPal organization is currently evaluating servers from Sun that may be powered by the UltraSparc T1 processor. 

Now, if PayPal wouldn’t force me to give up my bank account and routing numbers to use their service, I might be able to go back to eBay and see how all this stuff works out in a few months.  Somebody let me know.
