If you are upset over AIG executive bonuses, then sadly you are a puppet being manipulated by your government. Sad but true, the debate over AIG bonuses is nothing but a smokescreen to keep you from realizing what the great wizard is really doing behind the curtain. As long as you are upset at AIG, you are completely missing the point, which is what your government wants.
In America, the U.S. Constitution prevents the federal government from interfering with legally binding contracts between two parties. This is essential to our liberties and to a free democracy, not to mention a functional capitalistic society. Once the government can manipulate your contracts, you are owned and controlled. AIG owes its executives bonuses through preexisting legally binding contracts. Now, it would be nice for the execs to voluntarily give up their bonuses, but they certainly cannot be expected to give up their income.
When Barney Frank says that the government will track down the recipients and will find a way to recover the money, Mr. Frank is endorsing Communism. Seriously. He wants to “hunt them down.” We’re not talking Socialism here. What he suggests is that the money is owned by the government, and if they don’t like how it’s being spent, they’ll hunt you down and take it away from you. Freedom is lost at this point. You have no rights. And when Barney gets clever and suggests that they won’t interfere with the contracts, but rather will simply tax all bonuses over $100K at 100%... he’s treating you like a 3-year old. Are you stupid enough to fall for that? The government won’t interfere with your compensation, but if you legally receive more than $100K, they’ll take it in taxes. Give us a break, Frank. You sound more like a commie IDIOT every day.
Here’s the real kicker... it doesn’t matter. As you read the paragraphs above, you are either in agreement or wanting to argue with me. Regardless of your position, your government is THRILLED. Why? Because as long as you are debating whether or not free capitalism or communism is the right approach, you aren’t paying attention to what is really going on.
Why be mad about bonuses? Simply because it is taxpayer money that was supposed to be used to save the failing US economy. Simple, right? Most everybody can agree on that... whether you like it or not, agree with the approach or not, your government took your money and gave it to AIG to help save America. And now they want you furious about roughly $220M in bonuses being paid to executives.
What if I told you that the money paid to AIG wasn’t really supposed to save the US economy? Skeptical? I told you that the bonuses are a smokescreen. But what are they hiding?
How about $90+ BILLION dollars of taxpayer money that the government funneled through AIG to... are you ready for it? Countries like Germany, France, and the UK.
Feel stupid yet? The government takes your money and gives $90 BILLION to foreign countries. And at the same time, they drum up a fury of anger over the “mishandling” of a mere $220M in Constitutionally protected, legally binding, contractually sealed employee compensation. And certainly they don’t want you to remember that THEY took YOUR money and gave it to AIG WITHOUT ANY STIPULATIONS.
Still mad at AIG? If so, you are a fool. You should be FURIOUS with your government. And paranoid that we are on the march to Communism.
Aye, comrades. Your paycheck may be next!
